Monsters of Rock is a hard rock and heavy metal music festival. It started in Castle Donington, UK, and ran yearly from 1980 to 1996, except in 1989 and 1993. The festival later expanded to other countries, including all over Europe, the USA, and of course, Brazil.

In 1980, promoter Paul Loasby and Maurice Jones organized a one-day gig at Donington Park, near Castle Donington in Leicestershire. The event, headlined by Rainbow, was planned as the final show of their UK tour.

Despite being relatively unknown, its central location and sloping ground made it ideal for large crowds. The first festival featured a mix of British and international bands and attracted over 35k fans. Initially intended as a one-time event, its success led to it becoming an annual festival for the next 15 years, establishing the Midlands as a hub for heavy metal.

The gig faced difficulties as heavy metal's popularity declined, leading to cancellations in 1993 and 1997. In 1995, Metallica saved the festival by renaming it "Escape from the Studio." After its cancellation in 1997, Donington Park didn't host any major events until 2001. In 2003, the Download Festival took over, becoming a successful three-day event. Monsters of Rock was briefly revived in 2006 for a one-off show with Deep Purple and Alice Cooper. In 2012, the Monsters of Rock Cruise was launched.
