Carolina Giraldo Navarro, better known by her stage name Karol G, is a Colombian singer and songwriter. She was born on February 14, 1991 in Medellín, Colombia. Her father was also a musician. At age 14, she competed in the Colombian version of the reality-talent show The X Factor where she got to the bootcamp part of the competition. After the show, she kept recording music in her teenage years. She studied musicology at the University of Antioquia in Colombia, while also working as a backup singer for other artists.
She also had an audition for Universal Music in Florida, but the label ultimately decided not to sign her. So, she got back to Colombia, and - with backing from her father - started doing live Karol G concert shows in small venues. In 2013, she was featured on the song “Amor de Dos” by American reggaeton singer Nicky Jam. In 2014, she released the first hit song of her own, the dancehall track “Ricos Besos”.
Karol G’s debut album came out in October 2017, with the title “Unstoppable”. It reached the #2 spot on Billboard's Hot Latin Albums chart, while also breaking into the overall Billboard 200 chart at the #192 spot. She has released 2 more records since, “Ocean” in May 2019, and the new Karol G album “KG0516” in March 2021 - the latter is her best selling one to date with 660,000 copies sold in the US alone.
The biggest hits in the Karol G setlist to date are “Tusa” (2021) featuring Nicki Minaj, “Bichota” (also 2021), and “Culpables” (2022) featuring Anuel AA. She was also featured on the 2019 hit song by her fiance Anuel AA, “Secreto”. In addition, she was a judge on the reality-talent show “Pequeños Gigantes USA” in 2017.
