Craig David is a British singer, songwriter, and rapper. He was born on May 5, 1981 in Southampton, England. David was born into a middle class family in Hampshire, England. His carpenter father also played bass in a reggae band as a hobby, thus the young Craig got some early musical influence. However, alas, he was also bullied at school.
He was able to get a manager as a teenager. One of his demos, pitched by his manager, impressed a producer at Wildstar Records. David soon got signed. He was initially hired to sing the vocals for a small band called “Artful Dodger”. After some moderate industry success with the band, mainly with the song "Re-Rewind (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta)", the management thought it best to take David solo.
His debut solo album, “Born to Do It”, was released in August 2000. It was a massive hit, reaching the top of the UK’s OCC charts; and even peaking at the #11 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list over in the US. The most successful tracks on it were “Walking Away” and “7 Days”.
Since then, David has produced 7 more studio albums, thus he has 8 in total. The 8th, titled “22”, came out in May of 2022. The best selling among his albums so far has been his debut one, “Born to Do It”.
David’s biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Walking Away” and “7 Days” (both 2000); as well as "Rise and Fall" (2002) featuring the fellow English rock starSting.
Craig David has been immortalized in TV history without his knowledge. In September 2001, the infamous "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" cheater Charles Ingram was asked a question about David’s debut album to which he got the answer from his wife in the audience through deliberate coughing.
